This is now the 4th set of components I've had in my 2002 Subaru Impreza (let's just say I have much to compare them to!!)... Stock, Boston Acoustics, Alpine Type S, and now these...
My setup is as follows: an Alpine head unit (50Wx4), Sony Xplod XM-SD46X 600W 4-channel amp, and a 10" Kicker Solo-Baric w/ 800W amp in a custom box
Immediately upon firing up my stereo, I noticed how much these speakers SMOKED the Alpine's I had taken out! As a recording engineer, I would say that I have more discriminating ears than most consumers (I would hope :P). I listen to a lot of rock music and for me, these speakers give me all the "punch" that was missing from my system before. (Mostly 80-150Hz...) While the Alpine's had smooth highs, the bass response was about HALF of what these are -- hence the reason I got the sub to begin with!! Sadly, the Kicker really only provided tight response in the super-low frequency range (I blame this on the enclosure, mostly). However, adding the MB Quart's has balanced out my system IMMENSELY.
I highly recommend these speakers if you want good low-mid response and crystal clear highs. Don't expect them to do 60Hz and below really well, but if you have a sub these basically rock.
