Product Reviews For Soundstream SW-12SE

  • i know it seems laughable to see someone give these 5 stars since these are the cheapest dual coil sub that SS offers. i have been in this game since my first rig in 1990. (was 2 punch 15s) and i've had many huge rigs over the years, (4 18" hx2s, 8 12" punch XLCs, list goes on) so i would consider myself to be an excellent reference for judging performance/ tonal quality at high output. currently i use 2 solox 18s that i put in the car 3 times a year or so for spl shows, but because of their weight (i have a lil 2 dr. focus), i can't keep them in the car year round. plus i have children so i need my back seat most all year long. until a few months back, i have had no bass all year except for the day or two a year when a show comes 'round. i finally got sick of not having bass the rest of the year, so i went on a hunt for a pair of cheap 12s by a decent manufacturer that i could bury into a small area of the hatch, and ran across these. funny enough, boss offers the same woofer on here with the same stitched surround, binding posts, etc., just decorated up different. im not sure if the boss's coils are equivalent, but i can't help but wonder if they are. so, on to my review: i use 2 SS D-Tower 3400s (also purchased from here) to push my kickers and have always had great success with their gear so, i figured i'd try these out on my lil autotek 2000.1d supersport since its a 1 ohm amp. i have 2 of these 12s in a tiny little, dare i say it, SEALED! enclosure, with less than 2 cubic ft. internal total, and it whales like i have a BUNCH of power/ or a much larger ported enclosure!! i have all four coils paralleled to my amp and i can drive these things 140dB (50hz) TL'ed legal, sealed, til it thermals. (takes an hour of non-stop, full blast bass music for the amp to thermal). when my buddies first heard these, they thought for SURE they were ported. i literally had to let them check out the box, because they crank so hard and clean that they couldn't believe it. these have taken 1440W clamped, all day long for months without breaking a sweat. even when You take them into clipping they maintain their clean deep tone, unlike many woofers i've heard through the last 20 years. i give these an A+ for their cost<performance! and I'd like to add I have been VERY pleased with onlinecarstereo. they have speedy delivery and good prices.
